Times Of Swaziland: SNBA PLAYS HARDBALL WITH E40 000 MTN SPONSORSHIP SNBA PLAYS HARDBALL WITH E40 000 MTN SPONSORSHIP ================================================================================ BY SANELE JELE on 25/07/2018 02:21:00 MBABANE – It’s not how high you go but what you do when you get there. This is one of the popular slogans in the world of basketball and it seems it also applies administratively, at least in Eswatini; that it is not how much sponsorship you can get but what you do with the money. With the second MTN Basketball League almost close to its second round, some teams have still not received their prize money for the previous season - 2017/2018 season. A prize presentation ceremony was held in February where the winning teams (winners and runners-up) were presented with dummy cheques. The Swaziland Basketball National League was sponsored to a tune of E250 000 in its inaugural season by Swazi MTN. The mobile network giant company has pumped in E300 000 for the 2018/19 season. According to a document sent to The Times Sports Desk, teams are owed over E40 000 in prize monies from the previous season. The champions in the Elite Men’s League, Men’s Promotional League and National Women League, received their prize monies. These are; Mbabane Jazz, Manzini Titans and Phoenix Alumni. The first prize money in the elite league was E17 500 while in the National League, it was E13 500 with the Promotional Men’s league taking home E9 000. The rest of the teams are allegedly still owed their monies. All the teams were supposed to get E1 000 participation fee but they have not received it so far. The runners-up in the Elite Men’s League, Manzini Steels, were entitled to E10 000 but were not paid while the runners-up in the Promotional Men’s League, Tridents, received E5 000 with the National Women’s League’s runners-up, Super Ladies entitled to E7 500, but were allegedly not paid.
