‘WESLIANS’ LADIES IN E35 000 BOUNTY

JOHANNESBURG - Manzini Wanderers Ladies stand a chance to win big in prizes
after easily advancing to the quarter-finals of the Maimane Phiri tournament.
The maroon and white outfit took advantage of the local  break to visit the
neighbouring country where they are in chase of E35 000 first  prize money.
After leaving the country on Monday night, they got down to business yesterday,
as they played their  round-robin matches.
Wanderers were in the same group as Blue Birds and Diepkloof Ladies. They faced
the latter in their opener and cruised to an impressive 7-1 win. Talisman Meryln
Sanga, Gcinile Zwane, Tibonile Dlamini, Tenanile Ngcamphalala, and Kholiwe
Magagula were all on target, as the trigger-happy Eswatini side cruised to the
last eight after just one game.
The other group game ending in 1-all draw, the next game against Blue Birds was
played about 30 minutes later.
Despite parading tired bodies and heavy legs, Wanderers had an insatiable
appetite for goals. They won 2-0 against the fresher Blue Birds, thanks to
second half strikes by Gcinile Zwane and the gifted Tibonile Dlamini. They will
face the best third-placed team in quarter-finals. The opponents will be known
before the end of the day, as the Group C and D teams are in action today.
Wanderers will return to South Africa tomorrow for the quarter-final match set
for Friday. Coach Percy Shongwe was impressed by the showing of his charges and
sounded confident that they would go all the way to win. He stressed that they
maintained their cutting edge despite a long break.
