The athletes are namely; Bongumenzi Mbingo, Khanyisile Hlatshwako, Liam Emmet, Robyn Young, Melusi Lukhele, Sikhulile Mahlalela and Nhlakanipho Gwebu. The games are billed for July 18 to 28. The squad was announced yesterday by the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) President Peter Shongwe in the company of the CEO Sydney Simelane and SNSRC Business and Development Manager Zama Tsabedze. The team will spend 10 days in Algeria. Shongwe said the games are precursor to the Olympic Youth games scheduled for Bounos Airies, Argentina in October. She said some of the events from the games would be qualifiers for the Youth Olympic Games. “In line with our strategic plan, we have selected from three individuals sports codes that are currently receiving direct support and are potential podium finishers in these games and in the near future. We wish to thank the associations and the coaches for their hard work, the parents for allowing the talent to develop,” he said. Shongwe also thanked the Eswatini Government and the Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) for support. “This team, small in number, is an indication of our commitment to the future. The costs of travel are major constraint. We would have loved to send a larger team. “We wish the team loads of fun as they go out to compete at the international level,” he concluded. SNSRC Business and Development Manager Zama Tsabedze urged the athletes to go there and make the country proud and also to enjoy and create friendship.
