TWO-YEAR DEAL FOR  DODO AT SUNDOWNS

MBABANE – Months of speculations over the new Manzini Sundowns coach have been
put to rest following the appointment of Zimbabwean Darlington Dodo to lead the
ambitious side.
Dodo, who arrived in the country last Thursday, as exclusively revealed by this
newspaper, has already put pen to paper and is supposed to get down to business
anytime. He has reportedly signed a two-year renewable contract to become
Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini’s successor.
Sundowns Chairman Mark Carmichael confirmed the appointment of the former
Zimbabwe’s Bulawayo City coach, but could not disclose the finer details of
the contract.
“He is the right candidate for the job because he is knowledgeable, qualified
and experienced.
“It is an ‘open contract’, but football contracts by their nature are
performance-based,” said Carmichael.
Dodo, 47, is a CAF A Licence holder since February last year. He won the 2009
Premier League title with Gunners FC back home. He was once appointed Zimbabwe
national Under-23 assistant coach. He also assisted the legendary Madinda Ndlovu
during the senior national team’s African Nations Championship campaign in
Sudan.  Between 2012 and 2013, he was coaching Botswana giants Township Rollers.
Former Malanti Chiefs gaffer Humphrey Mlwane, on the other hand, was also a
favourite to land the job, but the deal fell through the ropes.
Meanwhile, Sundowns are eager to put behind a disappointing 2017/18 campaign
after finishing seventh with only 38 points in 26 attempts.
