Times Of Swaziland: LUBOMBO FA, TEAMS CLASH OVER ELECTIONS LUBOMBO FA, TEAMS CLASH OVER ELECTIONS ================================================================================ BY MTHUNZI MAZIYA on 24/06/2018 08:53:00 MBABANE – A showdown is looming between the Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA) and its affiliates ahead of the General Assembly slated for August 5. The LRFA recently suffered the unfortunate scenario of losing their Chairman Mangaliso Sihlongonyane, who passed away after a short illness less than two weeks ago. Already there is a heated debate on who shall replace him and when it shall happen. Sihlongonyane had been at the helm of the LRFA since 2015, and new elections were expected at next year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). However, a majority of the teams in the region, especially those who campaign under the Lubombo Super League want the late Chairman to be replaced as soon as possible. They have implored the LRFA’s Executive Committee to ensure that elections take place during the AGM on August 5th or else they will not attend. Former Premier League of Swaziland (PLS)’s Chief Executive Officer, Zakhele Dlamini has already been tipped for the position. Others who are seen by the teams as being the perfect fit to lead them forward include former chairman Nicodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama and former Midas Mbabane City’s Director Polycarp Dlamini. LRFA’s Secretary Sicelo Nene explained yesterday that what the teams were asking for was impossible. He said constitutionally his executive was bound to send an invitation to the affiliates two months before the date of the AGM. He said they did so on June 5, and they could not have invited teams to nominate then because they did not anticipate the demise of the chairman. “The constitution demands that the notice for the AGM be sent together with the invitation to nominate if there is a need to do so. We sent the notices a long time ago, even before the demise of the chairman. This has to happen 60 days before the AGM so that teams can then submit their nominations 30 days before the meeting,” he said.
