MBABANE – The legacy of the late Swazi Mobile Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’
Gamedze on his passion for CAF club football has been upheld by Swazi Mobile.
The mobile phone company has sponsored 1000 soccer fans who are Swazi Mobile
subscribers with free entry for tomorrow’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary
round first leg match between Young Buffaloes against visiting Cape Town City.
The match kicks off at the Somhlolo National Stadium at 3pm. And yesterday, the
company pumped in E50 000 for the 1 000 tickets for the game, but the
beneficiaries will only be Swazi Mobile subscribers.
Announcing the sponsorship, Swazi Mobile Macford Sibandze, Corporate
Communications Manager speaking in the presence of Wandile Mtshali, Chief
Technical Officer and Gciniwe Fakudze who is Chief Customer Officer, was frank
in asserting that the sponsorship was nothing but continuing with the legacy
initiated last year.
“We are pushing the legacy of the late chairman which was all about
positioning the company as a corporate citizen, especially on issues of sports.
We are aware that running a football team is a challenge and that pre-sale
tickets is a SADC challenge. We have, as a company, undertaken to assist the two
CAF representatives,” he said.
He said the focus was on tomorrow’s CAF Confederation Cup match between
Buffaloes and Cape Town City and details for the Mbabane Swallows vs Bantu F.C
home game would be discussed later.
“We have sponsored 1000 fans who should be Swazi Mobile subscribers with free
entry tickets for the game. We will use our digital technology to select the
winners,” he said. Chief Technical Officer Mntshali said the company seeks to
support Young Buffaloes in their CAF endevour by bringing in fans into the
stadium,” he said.
The sms will be free of charge and according to Chief Customer Officer Gciniwe
Fakudze the gesture was nothing but a gift from the heart by Swazi Mobile.
“This is us giving back to the nation for embracing Swazi Mobile. We could
have charged for the sms but because this is a gift, it will be free. We are a
company that is connecting at Swazi level and that is why we are not charging
anyone anything for this,” she said.
Young Buffaloes CEO Sandile Gwebu hailed the company for its generosity and
promised the nation that his team would leave a mark in the competition.
