Times Of Swaziland: MY BEST YET TO COME – MLANDVO MY BEST YET TO COME – MLANDVO ================================================================================ BY NTOKOZO MAGONGO on 05/02/2018 02:36:00 NHLAMBENI – His athletics career was almost ruined by a series of injuries and they had kept him out of action for about three years. That is Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) sprinter Mlandvo Shongwe who runs 100m and 200m. The 24-year-old athlete represented the country in numerous juniors’ international competitions including the African Youth, World Junior Championships and Southern African Regional championships before he suffered a thigh injury. Manzini Athletics Club coach Muzi Mabuza never gave up on the athletes and he has been making sure that he gets the best treatment for the injury so that he bounces back to action. He had been attending some physiotherapy in Pretoria at the High Performance Centre. On Saturday, the athlete was training with two others, Mzamo Mngometulu and Mlungisi Shongwe at Nhlambeni under the watchful eye of Mabuza. Shongwe’s best time in 100m is 10:52 seconds and 21:23 in 200m. He said now he was full of confidence and ready to give his best on the track. “It was not looking good when I suffered the injury as I thought it was over with my career. But now I feel okay and ready to compete. My challenge is to make it to the African Championships next year and do well,” he said. Mlandvo was competing with the country’ record holder Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa before he suffered the injury. Mabuza said Shongwe was now part of the athletes who are training with the focus on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games. Others are; Thandaza Zwane and Mzamo Mngometulu. “Now he is 90 perncent ready to bounce back to full action. “He just needed special attention and I’m happy that through the support of his club RSP, his injury was attended to,” he said.
