Times Of Swaziland: FOUR-HORSE RACE FOR PLS CHAIRMANSHIP! FOUR-HORSE RACE FOR PLS CHAIRMANSHIP! ================================================================================ BY BHEKISISA MAGONGO on 02/02/2018 01:35:00 MBABANE – The PLS will have a new chairman in the next two weeks. A notice for an elective Special Meeting has been issued by the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) where the race to replace the late Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze will begin as per the organisation’s constitution. Article 34.8 of the constitution stipulates that the vacancy in the office of the chairperson should be filled within 30 days of its occurring. This means that 30 days from January 14, when Gamedze was gunned down by an on-the-run assassin at Galp Filling Station convenience shop in Ezulwini, ends on the eve of Valentine’s Day. The PLS Board of Governors, in a meeting held on Monday, resolved to invoke the constitution and go to the polls to elect Gamedze’s successor. Initially, the constitution had stipulated that a candidate for the position of chairperson should have served as member of the Board of Governors for four years. However, the clause was then amended through an addendum in the constitution which then stated that the person should have served for two terms in the executive committee to be eligible to stand for the position. And this therefore puts the quartet of Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula, Steve Horton, Mduduzi ‘Tsotsi’ Mabila and Sicelo Mkhonta in the race. The constitution is also open to non PLS members to run for the position as long as the candidate once served for two consecutive terms in the executive committee. All four have been members of the executive committee for two terms and above. Mabila is the most senior of the quartet, having started serving in 2009 when he was still director of Hellenic.
