Times Of Swaziland: WASTEFUL WANDERERS LET SWALOWS OFF THE HOOK WASTEFUL WANDERERS LET SWALOWS OFF THE HOOK ================================================================================ BY LWAZI DLAMINI on 01/02/2018 00:57:00 Sports Editor (At Somhlolo National Stadium) Mb. Swallows.........................................(0) 0, Mnz. Wanderers....................................(0) 0, LOBAMBA – Manzini Wanderers talented midfielder Mike Dombo left Somhlolo National Stadium last night tearing his hair in frustration after missing two glittering chances that could have easily brought to a juddering halt Mbabane Swallows’ 41-league-game unbeaten run. Dombo, on two occasions in the 53rd and 86th minute, failed to score with an open net beckoning when it looked easier to score than to miss, in the process allowing Swallows to gain a precious point they barely deserved. The point also helped the red and white glamour side extend their league unbeaten run which stretches from last season to a history defining 42 games. The ‘Beautiful Birds’, who spent the night thwarting waves and waves of Wanderers attack, now enjoy a four-point lead at the summit of the log with six games remaining after nearest challengers Young Buffaloes lost by a solitary goal to Moneni Pirates here on Tuesday night. If it were not the numerous brilliant saves by Mbabane Swallows goal-minder, Sandanezwe Mathabela, who had a good game, it was the Ghanaian winger’s shocking misses which left the Wanderers faithful feeling like they had an overdose of Niknaks and Fanta Grape. If the 48th minute miss by the Ghanaian when Swallows goalkeeper, Sandanezwe Mathabela did well to block his shot at three yards out was pardonable, the 53rd minute miss could be attributed to some slice of bad luck when his exquisite chip, which would have left even returnee top golfer Tiger Woods green with envy, ricocheted off the bar. But his miss, with four minutes remaining, was simple woeful, unpardonable and extremely shocking by both the Swaziland’s official languages and his native 250 Ghanaian dialect. It was a horrendous miss, which would have no contest for the ‘Miss of the season’ award, had there been any. With goalkeeper Mathabela sprawling on the turf after failing to deal with an Aladeon Kola cross, Mandla Palma and Sifiso Mabila watching in anguish, the ball at his feet, the net gaping, Dombo miscued his shot much to the chagrin of those who worship with the ‘Weslians’ on the terraces. What a miss!
