The minister urged the 12-member senior national netball team to hoist the country’s flag high in the invitational Mission Foods Nations Cup in Singapore, to be played between Sunday and next Saturday. Before departure yesterday, the team made a stop at the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) offices in Mbabane, and the minister led guests who came to bid farewell to the side. “The need for respect cannot be overstated. “We expect the team to shine like in the African Championships in 2015. We’re confident the team will hoist the country’s flag high. Government is fully behind the team,” said the minister. In his address, the minister also advocated for women empowerment in sports. SOCGA CEO, Muriel Hofer, said her office was proud to invest in the netball outfit in a bid to promote women participation in sport. SOCGA paid for the ticket costs that were about E190 000. NNAS President, Mandisa Sigudla thanked all the stakeholders who made the trip possible. Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) paid an undisclosed amount for meals, while MTN Swaziland and Swaziland Building Society donated T-shirts. The hosts will only provide accommodation and breakfast. Also present during the farewell function was SNSRC CEO, Darius Dlomo, who thanked government for the continued support of women involvement in sports.
