RAIN ‘WASHES AWAY’ KING’S TEE-OFF

EZULWINI – Rain spoilt what could have been another flawless round of golf by
His Majesty King Mswati III.
The King was set to tee-off in Swaziland’s biggest golf event at Royal Swazi
Golf Course in Ezulwini yesterday, but his play was suspended as rain bucketed
down on the greens.  As a result, the King would not tee-off in this year’s
14th instalment of the tournament.  King’s Cup Organising Committee’s Dan
Zikalala, confirmed that the rain made the course unplayable for the King.
The King, who is an avid sportsman and seasoned golfer, usually plays not less
than five holes.  His tee-off is the highlight of the tournament, which attracts
professionals and amateurs from across the globe.
Despite the unforeseen circumstances, sponsors’ representatives did manage to
get a chance to rub shoulders with the King. Sponsors of the prestigious event
include Swazi MTN, Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC), 
Nedbank Swaziland, Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC), Royal Swazi Spa Holdings
and Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation (SRIC), to mention but a few.
Also sharing the podium with His Majesty was South Africa-based top female
golfer, Nobuhle Dlamini, who was unlucky to miss the cut by three strokes after
round two on Wednesday. She was ranked 49th but managed to play in yesterday’s
PRO-AM.
The curtain will fall on the tournament after the final round of the
professionals this afternoon. There will be a luncheon, where the winner of the
E55 475 first prize money will be crowned.  After yesterday’s round, South
Africa’s Jacques de Villers, who is ninth on the Sunshine Big Easy Tour order
of merit, was leading.
