MBABANE – After the Football Association’s General Assembly last month, it
looked certain that a woman leader would take charge of the Women’s Football
Association as chairman.
However, things did not work out despite the WFA membership’s determination to
at least have a woman chairman. The WFA held its elections yesterday at Sigwaca
House during the General Assembly and Sonnyboy Mabuza retained his chairmanship.
Mabuza retained the position after getting five votes out of nine voting
members, beating his woman contender Winile Gwebu by just one vote. Worth
mentioning is that of the 10 members that were at the meeting, one abstained and
did not vote at all, which saw members complain about it as they had thought it
was all systems go for Gwebu among all of them. Taking the Vice-Chairman post
was Mfanzile Vilakati who also beat Cindy Dludlu to it after getting five to her
four votes. Aaron Mavimbela and Bonginkhosi Mhlanga were elected unopposed in
the secretary and vice-secretary positions respectively.
The same happened for the treasurer and members positions. For treasurer, Cindy
Dludlu retained the position after the two other candidates Mfanzile Vilakati
and Wandile Sibiya withdrew. One Tom Ndzinisa and Bongisipho Mamba were also
elected unopposed to complete the new Executive Committee.
In his brief remarks, Mabuza thanked the members for trusting him once again as
their leader for the next four years and promised to continue working towards
development of the sport. He said it was high time they prioritised on getting
sponsors for WFA and also ensuring the teams can sustain themselves.
