MANZINI – Following their sluggish start in the elite league, Imbumbe returned
to winning ways at the expense of rookies Dunkylaine.
This was during the E250 000 sponsored MTN Swaziland National Basketball League
played on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre.
The hosts managed to beat the newly-promoted side 72-31 in an enticing
encounter.
It was a tightly contested game but the Thulani Thwala-led side emerged
victorious.
The win for Imbumbe lifts them to the third spot from position seven while
Dunkylaine remain on the sixth spot.
Speaking after the game coach Thwala said they were ready to give title
contenders a run for their money.
“Look, despite losing our first league game against Steels, I believe this win
today gave the players motivation to win more games. We need to compete this
season so we need to up our game. Well I am still new here but I believe I have
a good team to give the dominating teams a run for their money,” said Thwala.
Meanwhile, his counterpart Mzwakhe Phiri said they were concerned about
assembling a winning team that can retain the elite league status.
“We are new here but I think my players are adapting in the elite league. I am
proud of the team as they are a product of my basketball academy and I
couldn’t ask for more from them today as they were playing against an
experienced side,” said Phiri.
