The premier who was the main guest during fast growing cycling club, MTN Khemani’s dinner at Royal Swazi Convention Centre in Ezulwini on Friday night felt the safety of the riders needed to be prioritised. Some local motorists bumped into cyclists, with a fatal accident in 2013 claiming the life of forceful youngster, Gift du Pont. “What remains crucial is the designation of cycling lanes in our roads to ensure to ensure safety and ease of movement of cyclists. It is a concern that we have noted,” the head of government said. “Swaziland prides itself for having a road infrastructure rated among the best in our continent.” The PM also highlighted that using bicycles was good for the environment. “Bicycles are an ideal mode of transport in terms of protecting the environment from harmful emissions.” “Cycling can thus be appropriately referred to as a ‘clean sport.” The prime minister further lauded sponsors, MTN Swaziland, for coming on board while also welcoming the professional teams, mainly from South Africa. Also present during the festivities were Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister, David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala and his Housing and Urban Development counterpart, Phiwayinkhosi Mabuza, among other guests.
