30 000 TO WATCH  KING’S SUPER CUP

MBABANE – The historical King’s Super Cup is set to make more history in
local football by having a record number of people at Somhlolo National Stadium.
The tournament’s PRO, Dumisani ‘DU’ Sibandze, articulated that they
expected 30 000 people to converge on the country’s Mecca on July 18 to watch
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates take on Royal Leopard and Mbabane Swallows in
what will be a first of its kind one-day tournament in the country.
The largest crowd to watch a soccer game at the venue, that was recorded in the
history of modern football, stands at about 15 000 but according to Sibandze,
this number is expected to double.
Quizzed on the venue’s size, which has already been noted by many, including
Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini, to be shrinking in size as scores of
people continue to threaten to tear it apart during finals of tournaments, the
PRO said the scaffolding (temporary stands) to be put up behind the ‘No
Man’s Land’ would accommodate a considerable number of people.
“We cannot limit the number of people we are expecting, so I can say we expect
30 000 people to be at Somhlolo National Stadium on the day. Preparations, to
ensure that such a number of people are accommodated, are being made and the
scaffolding to be put up will take a considerable amount of people.”

Meanwhile, Sibandze further revealed that the pre-sale tickets would start
retailing a week before the much anticipated tournament, but said the price
would be disclosed during the relaunch and draw ceremony to be staged on June 24
at a venue yet to be confirmed.
He said such tickets would also be available in South Africa.
