THULI MADONSELA AT MBABANE WEDDING!

MBABANE – Advocate Thuli Madonsela, the no nonsense South African Public
Protector, was a surprise guest yesterday at the wedding of her nephew Sibusiso
Madonsela and Zanele Dube.
Guests turned their heads to where Madonsela was sitting when gospel singer
Sabelo Masuku, the programme director, introduced her.
The public protector is Sibusiso’s aunt.  She was born after Sibusiso’s
father, Musa Madonsela. The wedding was held at the Mbabane branch of the Free
Evangelical Assemblies. The Madonselas hail from Nhlangano in the Shiselweni
Region. Thuli Madonsela wrote her O-level examination at Evelyn Baring High
School in Nhlangano in 1979.
She then became an assistant teacher at the same school in 1980.
Sibusiso, the groom, is a warder at His Majesty’s Correctional Services. The
marriage officiator was was Reverend Aaron Matsebula.
Superintendent Bongani Khumalo, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the
Correctional Services and other senior prison officers like Joseph Mahlindza
attended the wedding.
After the wedding, the guests used their mobile phones to take pictures of the
public prosecutor. One of the wedding guests was overheard saying she was
privileged to have physically seen her after seeing her most of the time on
television talking against corruption.
In an interview with Times SUNDAY, the public protector said:”It was really a
nice wedding. It was blessed and I hope they will live together in peace.”
She was also briefly interviewed on corruption and women representation in
decision making institutions. Madonsela said women and men were both needed in
decision making institutions.
She said it was vital to have both strengths on board to balance the scales. She
said both man and woman complemented each other in development.
However, she said, she had observed over the years that women were
developmentally-oriented or focused. She said women were very useful in
empowerment programmes and their involvement in decision making institutions was
an advantage to any society.
