Times Of Swaziland: TUCOSWA gets investigative ILO missions to SD TUCOSWA gets investigative ILO missions to SD ================================================================================ BY SAMKELO NGWENYA on 17/06/2013 02:10:00 MBABANE – The Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) has successfully requested an investigative high-level ILO mission to Swaziland. This was said by TUCOSWA President Barnes Dlamini after the ongoing ILO Labour Conference 102nd Session of 2013, issued its verdict clearing Swaziland from the Special Paragraph. ILO is the International Labour Organisation, an agency of the United Nations which deals with labour related issues. Minister of Labour and Social Security Lutfo Dlamini said government welcomed the idea and thanked ILO on its decision to send a normal fact-finding team, as opposed to the Commission of Inquiry which was advocated for by certain people. The TUCOSWA President said they were pleased that their request had been granted. “The Conference noted that in having had Swaziland on the Special Paragraph for the past three years in succession, the violations of workers’ rights continued to increase,” the TUCOSWA President said. He said the federation agreed with the observation, therefore, requested the high-level ILO mission to come and investigate the situation on the ground to get first-hand information. “We are strongly of the view that the mission investigation by the ILO will reap the intended reforms to the benefit of the poor working class of Swaziland,” he said. The president said they were determined to work hard, not only with their members but with all the workers of Swaziland to pursue that goal. Swaziland appeared before the Committee on the Application of Standards on Tuesday.
