MANZINI – Some civil servants say as much as they would have been happy with
more, they are glad that their unions signed the collective agreement.
Nompumelelo Mlotsa, 35, who is on Grade C 5 Notch 3, said based on her
calculations, she would now earn E457.70 more per month. This means her once-off
of one per cent will be E1 885.71. When calculating what she will earn this
month as the award will be backdated to April 1. ‘2022, Mlotsa will get E5
089.59 more. The lowest paid teachers, who hold a Primary Teaching Diploma
(PTD), are currently earning E5 486.97 per month and have an annual salary of
E65 844.
Backdated
The PTD holders are currently paid on Grade B 2 Notch 1, and they will amass
E164.61 extra per month and when backdated by the seven months, will equate to
E1 152.27, while the once-off payment of one per cent will be E678.19. This
means they will earn E7 317.43. Secretary General (SG) of the Swaziland
Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU) Mayibongwe Masangane, said their members wanted
the money and they said it was fine given the financial challenges they were
experiencing. This was also said by the SG of Swaziland National Association of
Government Accounting Personnel (SNAGAP) Phumzile Masilela, who said their
members were grateful for the three per cent. She said people did not care about
the meagre difference as every cent counted in these hard times.
