Times Of Swaziland: BUSINESSMAN SHOT DEAD IN BROAD DAYLIGHT BUSINESSMAN SHOT DEAD IN BROAD DAYLIGHT ================================================================================ Sibusiso Zwane on 28/11/2019 09:02:00 MANZINI - A businessman was gunned down in Manzini in what could be termed as a broad daylight public assassination. The entrepreneur and a well-known socialite, Jomo Khumalo, was assassinated near the Manzini Club traffic lights. The deceased was well-known in the public transport industry; cross-border to be specific. Khumalo, who grew up under hawkers as he used to drive his father’s kombi in the early 90s, was shot in front of his family, including his wife. The businessman was travelling in a Mazda Demio. A source who witnessed the incident, said the late businessman was driving towards Manzini when a navy blue VW sedan, with local registration numbers, sought to overtake his Mazda Demio and when it was adjacent to the driver’s window, the unknown occupants of the vehicle opened fire directed at the driver’s seat. Fired “They fired about four quick shots and sped off,” the source said. He said motorists who were following the two cars called the police and they responded promptly to the call. The businessman is said to have been still alive when police arrived and they rushed him to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital. “Unfortunately, the businessman, who owns a fleet of kombis and mini-buses, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital,” the source said. On the other hand, the source said other police officers and personnel from the Emergency Medical Services (EMS), who are widely known as paramedics, attended to the businessman’s family members, who were visibly traumatised. The source said the shooting incident was so quick that the Municipal Council of Manzini workers, who were cutting grass along the MR3 Public Road, thought the sound of the gunshots came from the car’s exhaust pipe since it was a VW. He said they only got to know about the bone-chilling incident when the police arrived and started asking if they could identify the killers. However, the source said since they did not think it was gunshots, they never bothered looking at the scene. Furthermore, the source said last week, the businessman approached the police to report that he had gathered that there were hit men who wanted to kill him and he asked for protection.
