Times Of Swaziland: STORM AFTERMATH: E120M TREES DAMAGED STORM AFTERMATH: E120M TREES DAMAGED ================================================================================ BY LINDELWA MALINGA on 06/12/2018 05:22:00 MHLAMBANYATSI – Trees to the value of E120 million were damaged during Tuesday’s storm. According to Andrew Le Roux Executive Director of Montigny, 1 000 acres, were destroyed. He explained that it was trees that were between 17 and 18 years old, but they would be able to recover 80 per cent of this loss. “The recovery will be made through the sawmill for the damaged trees. We have worked on the closed roads which were covered by the trees and they have been cleared,” he said. The plantation which was affected was still visible from the main road going to Bhunya by yesterday afternoon. Vehicles with Montigny stickers on the side were found in the forest and some were on the road. Some of the vehicles’ occupants were taking pictures and those travelling past this direction with their private vehicles, stopped on the roadside and also took pictures. Those working at a filling station close by stated that they were still shocked by what happened, because they were 7km away but they did not feel the strong wind. Community members from Siphocosini stated that they were far, but they saw how the trees fell down like there was a machine cutting them at the same time. Some electricity and phone poles with their cables had fallen by the side of the road, and the companies responsible for the poles were found at the plantation putting up new ones.
