Times Of Swaziland: 63 IN RACE FOR 10 SENATE SEATS 63 IN RACE FOR 10 SENATE SEATS ================================================================================ BY SIBONGILE SUKATI on 12/10/2018 06:44:00 LOBAMBA – A total of 63 people were nominated for only 10 Senate vacancies. This went down just before 10pm in the House of Assembly where 33 males and 30 females were nominated, respectively. Among those nominated was former Lobamba MP Michael Masilela, who was fresh from a court victory, which qualified him for a Senate position. The usual suspects from the 10th Parliament were also nominated, and these include former Senate Deputy President Ngomuyayona Gamedze, former Senator Michael Temple and former senators Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa and Ndumiso Mdluli. At least 69 names were expected to be nominated, following that every member of the House was eligible to nominate, but for some reason, the legislators abstained while others nominated the same people. Under the female category, former senators Khanyisile Malambe, Lungile Gama and Lindiwe Ngwenya were also nominated. Of note is that should Malambe win, both she and her husband would be legislators following the fact that Mhlume’s Victor Malambe is an MP. One candidate, Winile Priscilla Nxumalo was nominated four times. Parliament was a hive of activity as early as 11am as Senate hopefuls came well on time to lobby for the positions. Other people who were nominated included Mbabane Swallows General Manager Sandile Zwane and former senator Bhutana Dlamini, including businessman Moses Dlamini. The next sitting for the MPs is on Monday at 10am.
