Times Of Swaziland: MAN SLITS WOMAN’S THROAT MAN SLITS WOMAN’S THROAT ================================================================================ BY SIBUSISO ZWANE on 11/10/2018 05:34:00 MANZINI – Once again, the brutality against women has reared its ugly head in Eswatini. A 23-year-old woman died painfully after a man who was her neighbour allegedly attacked and slit her throat open, using a sharp object. According to an impeccable source, the incident, which left community members shocked, took place at an open land near the woman’s home at Nhlotjeni under Mahlangatsha Inkhundla in the Manzini Region yesterday at around 10am. The source alleged that the woman was on her way to a nearby neighbourhood care point (NCP) when the man allegedly attacked her. He said people who heard the woman screaming for help, quickly ran to the scene but they were too late as they found her lying unconsciously in a pool of blood on the ground. “The suspect bolted immediately after slitting open the woman’s neck,” the source said. He said the man was currently on the run and there was an ongoing massive manhunt within the community and surrounding areas. However, by the time of compiling this report, it was not clear why the suspect allegedly murdered the woman. Information gathered was that those who were first to arrive at the scene called the police toll free emergency line and reported the matter. Statement The source alleged that so far, there was no formal statement regarding the incident, especially the cause of the attack on the defenceless woman. None of the witnesses seemed aware of the motive behind the attack. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, confirmed the murder of a 23-year-old woman by a man who was said to be a neighbour to the victim. She said police were still investigating the matter. “The suspect is still on the run and we urge him to surrender himself to the nearest police station,” Vilakati said. It is worth noting that there are a number of abuse cases, some of which result to death that take place between people who are related or known to each other. Even the Swaziland Action Group Against Abuse (SWAGAA) monthly abuse statistics, reflect shocking numbers of cases which take place across the country where the perpetrator and survivor or victim were known to each other. This incident happened just after a pupil was speared to death while within school premises in the Lubombo Region. The suspect is a 31-year-old man who claimed that the pupil had a sexual relationship with his wife. Last week, a 20-year-old university student was arrested after allegedly stabbing her mother to death in Manzini.
