Times Of Swaziland: MAN BEATEN, TORTURED IN DAGGA DISPUTE, DIES MAN BEATEN, TORTURED IN DAGGA DISPUTE, DIES ================================================================================ BY JOSEPH ZULU on 09/07/2018 00:00:00 PIGG’S PEAK – The high rate of violence associated with dagga has reared its ugly head again. A 24-year-old man became the latest victim of dagga-related violence after he died of injuries he sustained during alleged torture which lasted for about two days. The assault is said to have taken place on June, 25 and 26, 2018 around an area known as Emagengeni. It is alleged the man (deceased) was accused of having sold dagga belonging to his acquaintances and they were not happy with this. He is alleged to have been robbed of the dagga which was supposed to be sold but when he gave this version to his acquaintances, they did not believe this. He had alleged that the dagga was taken away from him by armed men. The man was then allegedly assaulted after he failed to explain where exactly the dagga was. It is alleged he was whipped all over his body for a two-day period in the hope that he would reveal where he had taken the dagga. Despite the beating, the men, who had allegedly assaulted him, did not believe his version and allegedly continued assaulting him. Upon realising that his condition was very bad, the man was alleged rushed to Emkhuzweni Hospital by an ambulance. He was treated at the hospital and discharged but his condition worsened when he returned home. He was then rushed to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital in Manzini where he was admitted. His condition did not improve until he eventually died on July 3, 2018 while undergoing treatment at RFM. The matter was reported to the Pigg’s Peak Police station and officers carried out an investigation and arrested four people in connection with the alleged murder.
