SA STUDY PERMITS HEADACHE NOT UNIQUE TO SD

MBABANE – The problem of obtaining study permits to learn in South Africa is
not unique to Swaziland as students from other SADC countries are faced with a
similar dilemma.
For the past week, Swazi students who are desperate to get the permits, have
found themselves holding vigils at the South African High Commission offices at
the New Mall.
Investigations by this reporter revealed that students in Zimbabwe are also
faced with a similar challenge, as they also have to camp as early as 3am in
order to get the services from the SA High Commission in Zimbabwe.
Joseph Ngwawi, a media practitioner in Zimbabwe, also confirmed to this
publication that the queues in Zimbabwe were also a feature at the SA High
Commission.
“My daughter, who is studying at one of the institutions of higher learning in
South Africa, also had to queue at the embassy as early as 3am, but it is not
clear what causes the problem or delay,” said Ngwawi.
Locals have also had to queue up on a daily basis to get the service and in most
instances, only 50 people are attended to per day.
However, yesterday one of those who were in the queue for the services was given
a ticket written the number 60.
Meanwhile, another Mozambican student, Dana Da Silva also wrote an article about
her experience in trying to get an SA study permit.
She said for those students who came from other countries, getting accepted into
the SA institutions wasn’t the only thing one needed to worry about.
