Times Of Swaziland: MUM ARRESTED FOR DROWNING BABY MUM ARRESTED FOR DROWNING BABY ================================================================================ BY BONGIWE DLAMINI on 08/12/2017 01:18:00 MANZINI – Yet another woman stands accused of allegedly killing her baby. Ncamsile Phakathi (31) of Makhulusihlenge in Mndobandoba, was arrested for allegedly drowning her 16-month-old son at Lusutfu River. Her family was unaware of the incident until after a group of boys, who were swimming in the river on Monday, made the shocking discovery of the minor’s corpse, almost in a decomposed state. The boys reportedly notified elders soon after they noticed that the lump they saw near the river with a foul smell was actually a corpse of a child. According to a reliable source, Phakathi was punished by her siblings on Saturday for allegedly leaving the child behind while she spent some days at her boyfriend’s place in Siphofaneni. The source said Phakathi had left the child at his paternal homestead, not far away from her home in Mndobandoba, but her family went to fetch the minor. Upon return from her romantic escapade, Phakathi’s siblings allegedly assaulted her with fists and kicks while they also stomped on her in exasperation. When doing this, the siblings are said to have asked Phakathi why she left the child behind without indication that she would not be returning sooner. After several apologetic screams, another source said Phakathi allegedly hinted that she would kill the child because he was the source of her punishment, and that he (son) was a deterrent for her to leave home anytime she wanted. A couple of days later, Phakathi is said to have left home with her son but when neighbours saw her in Big Bend town and asked where her son was, she told them she left him at home with his grandmother.
