Times Of Swaziland: NGWANE TEACHERS’ COLLEGE TO BE A UNIVERSITY – KING NGWANE TEACHERS’ COLLEGE TO BE A UNIVERSITY – KING ================================================================================ BY ANDILE NSIBANDE on 13/10/2017 00:28:00 NHLANGANO – Finally, Ngwane Teachers’ College will soon be transformed into a degree awarding university. Delivering the good news was His Majesty King Mswati III at the college graduation ceremony yesterday. The news could not have come at any better day for the college community, as calls for the transformation of the institution swirled prior to His Majesty’s address, with speaker after speaker, including the students through various performances, made sure to drive the message home. The King, who was in a jolly mood again gave the transformation his blessings and hinted that the college would likely be declared a fully-fledged university next year (2018), during the country’s forthcoming 50/50 double celebration. “As part of the celebration next year, we will declare the college a university,” said the king to rapturous applause from the audience. As the King delivered the message, Shiselweni Regional Administrator Themba Masuku, who has always supported the idea of the transformation of the college, was also seen flashing a wide smile from his seat in the VIP section. This came as no surprise because earlier on, before the King’s address, Masuku had also reiterated the call. The RA had argued that having a university in the Shiselweni region would fast-track development as a control room for creativity and innovation. The transformation is not an entirely new proposal, as the college has been engaged in refinements in the curricula offered, while staff members were reportedly improving their academic credentials in preparation for the much anticipated development, according to Principal Amos Mahlalela.
