Times Of Swaziland: SRA ROPES IN OSCAR PISTORIUS ADVOCATE SRA ROPES IN OSCAR PISTORIUS ADVOCATE ================================================================================ BY MBONGISENI NDZIMANDZE on 06/10/2017 01:25:00 MBABANE – SRA has roped in the services of top South African Advocate Barry Roux in its battle against Ngwane Mills. Roux shot to fame when he represented fallen paralympian Oscar Pistorius in his murder case. The advocate has been instructed by senior lawyer Sidumo Mdladla, to represent SRA in the matter where Ngwane Mills (Proprietary) Limited is contending that it was liable to pay over E40 million in respect of customs clearance. Advocate Roux was yesterday at the High Court where he argued on behalf of the authority before Judge Cyril Maphanga. This is the third time the advocate has appeared in the country’s courts. He once appeared in a case where a teacher had taken a financial service provider to court and during a bail application of some suspects who had been arrested by the Anti- Corruption Commission. Roux has fought and won a string of high-profile criminal cases but found celebrity status when millions followed the athlete’s three-day bail hearing like a reality television show. He earned praise in media around the world after he successfully argued during the hearing that the evidence placed the onus on the State to oppose bail, and dismantled its argument that the paralympian was a flight risk. Roux’s career spans more than 30 years and he has been described as a thorough and ethical lawyer, who would do his best for every client. Some of his successes were secured after years in court. These included Scottish-born businessman and former Rangers football club director Dave King, who risked jail for ignoring South Africa’s biggest-ever tax bill of R2.3 billion and faced a lengthy jail term. After a 13-year court battle, the case ended in what some observers described as an anti-climax, with the court ordering King to pay a far smaller amount of R700 million in revenue owed.
