Times Of Swaziland: SCU DEREGISTERED SCU DEREGISTERED ================================================================================ BY NTOMBI MHLONGO on 13/09/2017 04:04:00 MBABANE – It seems order will finally be restored at the Swaziland Christian University (SCU). This follows the deregistration of the institution from being a private entity to a non-profit organisation. When the problems at the institution began, it was alleged that government was unhappy that it was registered as a private entity, which led to problems regarding the subvention. As a result, the shareholders have taken the decision to have the company deregistered. An advert appeared in our newspaper yesterday, which contained the notice of deregistration. “Notice is hereby given that I have reasonable cause to believe that the under mentioned company, incorporated under the laws of Swaziland, is not carrying on the business, and the shareholders of the same company have applied for deregistration. “The name of the aforesaid company, unless cause is shown to the contrary at the end of the two months from the date hereof, be deregistered and struck-off the Swaziland Registrar of Companies, and the company be dissolved,” the notice read. Explaining the notice, SCU Vice Chancellor, Pastor In Whan Kim confirmed that government demanded the change of ownership and that they did it in order to comply with the country’s regulations. He said the institution was now in the ownership of the Africa Continent Mission (ACM) and not the Kim family. “Internally, the transfer has been completed as per the requirements of the regulations and shall be fully effective in two months. So the SCU is now under the ACM,” he said. The institution is currently not operational following a decision taken by government to suspend it two weeks ago. When the decision to suspend operations was announced, government said that following an audit by the Swaziland Higher Education Council (SHEQ), it was discovered that there was a lot wrong in the managerial structure, school facilities and the programmes which were being taught. Government said, as a result, a decision was reached that the institution should not be allowed to admit new students for the 2017 academic year.
