TWO FOUND DEAD ON ROADSIDES

MBABANE – She noticed him at a hospital queue looking too ill, and six days
later, she witnessed his lifeless body being taken away by the police.
This is one story of the two people who were found dead in separate incidents
over the weekend. In the first incident, Sanele Dlamini of Fonteyn narrated how
her attention was drawn towards a sickly man in a queue at the Mbabane
Government Hospital last week Monday, then later saw his lifeless body at a veld
behind Engen garage. The body was discovered by one Thulani Hlophe, who is also
a nurse at the hospital.
Hlophe said he noticed a frame of a person sleeping peacefully between rocks
yesterday. He said at first, he thought he was just resting.
However, he said when he went to the garage to buy himself, newspapers, he
noticed from a distance the same person who looked like he was asleep, but in
the same position. On his return, he got suspicious that something was terribly
wrong with the person and decided to ask an employee from the garage to
accompany him to inspect what was going on.
His fears were confirmed as they found the dead body of an unidentified man. The
duo called the police. The man was dark in complexion, wearing a navy blue
jacket with yellow and white stripes. He wore it inside out.
He wore grey formal pants, black socks, a green golf t-shirt and a white t-shirt
underneath.
Close to where he was found were his black slippers, a stripped wool hat, and a
small plastic bag with two almost spoilt bananas and a bitten apple. The latter
were found on a spot believed to be where he first slept before moving to where
he was eventually found.
Dlamini, the woman who said she recognised the man from the hospital, said he
could not walk properly but shifted on his buttocks on the waiting benches.
Since the queue was too long last Monday, Dlamini suspected that the man lost
patience and left before he could see the doctor.
When the police arrived at the scene, they removed some items from the man’s
pockets and the hospital sheet that one gets when visiting the hospital. It was
dated July 10, 2017. No medication was found.
Acting Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant
Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter, but said there was
nothing much she could divulge about the man.
She said the police were yet to conduct investigations. “There is a record of
a man who was found dead behind Engen garage. There is not much information
regarding the death of the man but the police are investigating the matter,”
she said.
