Times Of Swaziland: EX-MINISTER, TEAM GIVEN 90 DAYS TO PROBE RAILWAY DEATH EX-MINISTER, TEAM GIVEN 90 DAYS TO PROBE RAILWAY DEATH ================================================================================ BY THEMBINKOSI MAVIMBELA on 23/06/2016 04:21:00 MBABANE – Former Education Minister Wilson Makhalemphi Ntshangase has been appointed as the Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into the Mpaka Railway Station fatal accident. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Moses Vilakati, on behalf of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Lindiwe Dlamini, yesterday. Vilakati announced that the hearings would be conducted in public and everyone would be able to come to the venue. He said the commission of inquiry would investigate the cause of the accident, which happened at Mpaka Railway Station on December 17, 2015. The commission of inquiry has been given a period of 90 days to conclude its work. A train, which was driven by a 36-year-old man, crashed into another, which was stationary, train in the Mpaka Depot, resulting to the driver being killed instantly. The accident occurred just behind one of the administration offices, some of which are occupied by control personnel. Other members of the commission are Sandile Ceko, Sidumo Mdladla, Hlobisile Dlamini, Vumani Tshabalala and Richard Nxumalo. Vilakati advised the commissioners to execute their mandate with utmost diligence and dedication. He also advised them to come up with a good and comprehensive report within the time given to them. The minister then detailed the mandate of the commission and how the inquiry would be conducted. “The commissioners are mandated to conduct onsite inspections and subpoena witnesses they deem to be in possession of evidence or information concerning the accident,” said Vilakati.
