E1M LOMBARD CLASSIC AT ROYAL SWAZI

MBABANE – It’s happening at the Royal Swazi Spa Golf Club. The venue will
play host to the Lombard Insurance Classic with prizes worth E1 million from May
17 to 19. This tournament comes just two weeks after the Investec Royal Swazi
Open that had a prize money of E1.5 million.
The tournament has featured prominently on the Sunshine Tour since 2007 and it
is among the most historic moments in Southern Africa golf. The tournament will
start on May 17 at 8am and it will end on May 19 at 6pm.
Among the world known golfers who had graced the event include John Daly, Ernie
Els, Mark McNutty, John Bland, Dale Hayes and Fulton Allem, among others.
Locals
According to the sunshinetour website, there are over 100 professional golfers
who have already entered for the tournament and majority comes from South
Africa. Some of the locals who also appear in the draw include Meshack Zwane,
Peter Dlamini and James Pennington.
It is yet to be confirmed if the country’s number one lady golfer, Nobuhle
Dlamini, will also play in the tournament as her presence was felt in Investec
Royal Swazi Open where she was crowned the champion in the ladies category.
Professional golfer and coach Meshack Zwane confirmed yesterday that they are in
the pre-qualifiers for one spot in the Classic. “We are part of the tournament
but we are pre-qualifying for one spot in the Lombard Insurance Classic,” he
said.
