LAW ENFORCERS CRY FOUL OVER UNPAID INVIGILATION ALLOWANCES

MBABANE – Law enforcers who provided security during last year’s Swaziland
General Certificate in Secondary Education (SGCSE) and Junior Certificate (JC)
examinations are crying foul over unpaid invigilation allowances.
An officer from His Majesty’s Correctional Services, who preferred to be
anonymous, contacted this publication to express his grievances on behalf of the
other law enforcers over their unpaid allowances.
According to the officer, when the invigilation exercise commenced last year,
they had a mutual agreement with the Ministry of Education and Training that the
ministry was going to compensate them with an amount of E60 on a daily basis for
the services they rendered during the invigilation process.
According to the officer, the invigilation process lasted for a period of about
two months, which means they were supposed to be paid an allowance in the region
of E2 640 per person.
He claimed that the agreement was validated by forms which they signed depicting
that they had to receive the said amount of money on a daily basis.
However, when asked if he was in possession of those documents validating his
claim, he said he did not have them because upon signing the forms, they were
told to leave them at the ministry.
“I don’t have the forms with me now, reason being that upon signing them we
were commanded to leave them behind,” he said.
The officer disclosed that when the invigilation exercise was over, they
approached the ministry and demanded their allowances.
