Mozaik, whose real name is Muzi Ngwenya, was chosen from a list of five artists and these include Mshikishi Mdzebele, Zodwa Samboko, Diba Diba, Fanaza and Soul Friends. The list of the five artists was submitted by the Swaziland Music and Arts Association (SWAMA) to the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs with the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC). The profile of the artist was expected to be submitted on September 1 to the organisers of the contest. The ‘All Africa Song Contest’ is a television contest to showcase Africa’s diverse musical talent. Backing The project that is expected to bring most African countries together has the backing of UNESCO and the African Union, and is being sponsored by Coca Cola at this initial stage. Stanley Dlamini, SNCAC Chief Executive Officer confirmed that Mozaik has been selected for the All Africa Contest. “We have been working hand in hand with the association and were given a list of five names. On the five names, we had to come up with only one name and in this case it was Mozaik,” he said. Dlamini said there were a number of things that were considered before the final decision was made. Reflection “Among the things that were considered were the songs. We had to see if it represents a reflection of the country’s culture something that we believe is what Mozaik’s video had. We also looked at the quality of the DVD as it had to be sent to the organisers of the contest,” he said. Dlamini said, they came up with Mozaik as the candidate who they believe had the potential of lifting the country’s flag high in the contest. He said at the moment they were still waiting for the organisers to tell them on the next step as they had already submitted Mozaik’s profile. Concerned “At the moment we cannot say what will happen until we hear from the organisers. In as far as we are concerned, we have the faith in Mozaik and we know that he will definitely make us proud. We are adamant that if the organisers approve he will definitely represent the country well,” said Dlamini. Mozaik could not be reached as his phone rang without being answered yesterday. However, the CEO had mentioned that Mozaik had not been informed that his name had been selected for the concert.
