MISS SWAZILAND 2013/14   A GLAMOUR FILLED EVENT

EZULWINI – Exquisite and tasteful do not even begin to describe the glamour at
the Miss Swaziland 2013/14.
The over 350 guests who came to witness this red carpet event were treated to
cocktails at the foyer which was beautifully decorated.
Most of the guests started walking in after 7pm, dressed the part. The ladies
were an epitome of elegance looking all glitzy and glamorous in their different
outfits. It was evident that they had all made an effort to stand out. The
gentlemen also looked the part. Some looked handsome in their traditional
regalia, emajobo.
The auditorium was simply breathtaking. Beautiful drapes of purple, gold, blue
and white decorated the stage. Small fairy lights gave the stage the more glow
while tiny silver ‘disco’ balls hung from the ceiling, adding to the glitzy
decor. Part of the stage floor was decorated in gold with tindziwo (clay pots),
adding the Swazi touch to the venue.
Imbali Foundation Patron Inkho-satana Sikhanyiso was represented by Princess
Siphiwayena. The event was also attended by the Royal family.
Picked
The judges of the night were perfectly picked and they included Prince Cedza,
Princess Simile, Gladys Smith, Alex Fakudze, former Miss Swaziland Thembelihle
Zwane and Miss Mbombela Ziningi Maphalala.
Guests took their seats and the contest started at 9pm.  A voice over by the
pageant director, Thandeka Matse welcomed the audience, signifying the start to
a wonderful evening. South African comedian Maada and Semza Dlamini were perfect
for their role as they made sure the audience did not get bored. Maada kept the
crowd in stitches with his jokes. It was laughter all the way.
The 12 contestants opened the stage with the Luvadla presentation where they
performed a beautiful dance in this outfit, using tindziwo as part of the
choreography. It looked awesome and the receptive audience seemed to love it as
applause and screams filled the auditorium as soon as they took to the stage and
after.
Paraded
The girls paraded in swimwear soon after the audience was treated to a few jokes
by Maada. The swimwear was designed and done by the director of the event,
Matse.
They looked like bronze goddesses in their yellow swimwear.
The contestants all looked confident, strutting their stuff on the podium like
they were international super models. It was evident that they had been given
the training that they needed, physically and psychologically.  They were all
prepared for this day.
The audience was wonderful as they cheered on all of the girls, hardly booing.
There were shouts of encouragement and whistles of approval from them, making
the event even more beautiful.  Contestants Andile Slenge, Terry Mdletshe and
Samukelisiwe were the audience’s favourites as the screams and whistles got
louder each time they took to the podium.
Performances punctuated this beautiful event and only locals were given the
stage, which was quite encouraging to see as that promotes local talent.
Swaziland National Arts and Culture Council CEO Stanley Dlamini graced the event
with Swaziland Beauty Pageants Association President Tony Dlamini. Former Miss
Swaziland director Vinah Mamba also graced the event.
