The blended voices of Manzini Choir came out beautifully on Sunday for their first Choral concert this year. The concert which began at 2pm saw Choral music lovers flooding the St Theresa’s High School Hall to witness the choir render their best tunes. Angelic voices and soothing melodies oozed from the hall piercing the hearts of the attendees who filled the room. Deep sighs could be heard same as the display of hand signals from choral music lovers embracing each other in sheer amazement at what they were hearing during the gathering. In the audience was President of Eswatini National Choral Music Association Sihle Gumbi, Mathokoza Sibiya CEO of Ntjilo-Ntjilo Arts Network, the Chairperson of the choir, Mlamuli Hlatshwayo and other known choral music followers. Renditions The choir took to the stage just after 2pm dressed in their lihiya themed attires. Mlungisi Dlamini was the conductor; he was recently announced as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Eswatini National Choral Music Association. After a couple of renditions by the group, the president was called up to the stage to share a few words. “Manzini Choir continues to stand firm in its belief to growing Choral music in the kingdom and that is evident to the concerts that, they host consistently. It is also worth noting that, as an association we are trying to diversify the music and even collaborate with other genres including Gospel,” mentioned Gumbi. He further shared that they were excited to announce that the Standard Bank Choral competition will be held on May 7, this year. It was highlighted at the concert that the choir is the only consistent one in the country in hosting their own concerts. The choir which has been around since 1976 have performed different songs including Italian and Sotho renditions. The song which was rendered in Sesotho was supposed to be first presented in Lesotho, but they ended up debuting it at the concert. The evening went on blissfully with some audience members being so touched by the performances that they stood up to pledge to donate money to the choir.
