MANZINI – South African legendary musicians Mgarimbe, T’zozo and Sparks
Bantwana gave memorable performances at the xchange Lounge and Shisanyama during
the Gumba Gumba on Thursday.
Fun lovers came in numbers to witness the SA Kwaito stars perform live in the
country. It was a well executed pre-Christmas show boasting of over 400 fun
lovers who came to enjoy themselves. The show started at 11am with locals
holding down the decks. These included; Wild Card, Bisto, Soulsticks, Teesto,
Vavi, Bunny, DJ Knoxman, Culolam, Ohtomn Sally, Yanda, Shinely Greenz, The
Scientists, Hip Hop artist eMsteaniba, Zulu D, Sbu de Drum DJ and DJ Maphi. The
MC for the event was Welz Wethu, she made it interesting with her eye-catching
dance moves complemented by her energy.
Local DJs, Sbu de Drum, The Scientists, Culolam, DJ Knoxman, Yanda and Hip Hop
artist eMsteaniba got revellers on their toes. They delivered solid and
captivating sets which were loved by the patrons. Sbu de Drum DJ stole the show
with an Amapiano infused set, which lasted for over an hour. He enjoyed himself
as he played, dancing while behind the decks. His set came before Kalawa Jazzme
T’zozo, who began by performing his song titled ‘Woze Durban’.
Delighted
T’zozo was the first SA act to perform at 2.30am and fans were delighted to
see him on stage dancing and screaming. On the decks he was assisted by SA
musician Sparks Bantwana who also went on to assist ‘Sister Bethina’
hitmaker Mgarimbe during his performance. After his performance T’zozo shared
that he was quite excited to be part of the show. He said, “It’s always nice
to be here, people are welcoming and they love my songs. I didn’t expect to
get this kind of love honestly, I wish to come back again and again. I will
definitely come back and I would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year,” said the Kalawa Jazzme artist. Mgarimbe was all smiles on
stage giving the best out of Kwaito music before performing his song ‘Sister
Bethina’ which got fun lovers going crazy during the show. T’zozo performed
for 40 minutes while Mgarimbe performed for an hour.
He also gave this publication a comment after his performance and said: “I
have been captured by the love that people showed me during my performance,
especially when I was performing ‘Sister Bethina’. “This song came as
freestyle when I was enjoying myself at a club in South Africa, they recorded it
live while I was busy singing out of nowhere passing time. The love shown by
emaSwati really humbles me, I feel like I am still home in KwaZulu-Natal while
here because the love is completely the same.”
Infused
Sparks Bantwana was the last one to perform; he started off by delivering a
Gospel infused set on the decks before coming close to the stage to sing for fun
lovers. He was also a marvel to watch as he showcased his dance skills while
performing. A more appealing highlight of his performance was seen when he
performed an extended version of his record breaking song ‘Qolo lam’. This
song played for over 15 minutes with fun lovers repeatedly asking for an encore.
The show went on to end at 6am with DJ Snyperr on the decks and few fun lovers
around.
