ARTISTS MOURN DEATH  OF VETERAN DJ STEEL

MBABANE – Eswatini has lost a veteran in the music industry.
The entertainment industry started the past weekend on a sad note following the
passing of veteran DJ Steel. The sad news was confirmed on Friday afternoon and
that is when messages of condolences from artists started mushrooming on all
social media platforms. The shocked public expressed their shock and sadness
over the passing of the ever-reserved DJ. Some entertainers tried to make sense
of the sad news as the late DJ, whose real name was Ntokozo Nxumalo, from Mpaka,
was active on social media, particularly Facebook, in less than 48 hours before
his passing. This was confirmed by the messages shared where they provided proof
of when last they spoke to him.
However, DJ Czar seemed to be the hardest hit by the sudden death of the house
music DJ. He was not only a colleague but also a close friend to the fallen
entertainer, well-known for his shy tendencies. DJ Czar was publicly involved in
a hilarious conversation on Facebook, a day before his passing, where Steel
jokingly teased him over the change of his Facebook username.  The late DJ
teasingly told DJ Czar he was the only Steel the Deejay in the country and he
must not take over his name, this was after Czar had his username changed to
Czar Deejay. “I have been reading this post over and over again, trying to get
the message he was sending, I am so torn apart,” Czar wrote on the very same
post he was conversing with the late DJ, just under 48 hours ago.
It is worth noting that a few hours later, Czar did try to reach out to his
friend on his Facebook account, asking him where he was, only to learn he had
passed on. The distraught DJ was comforted by other shocked entertainers and
friends who understood the friendship he had with DJ Steel. Another close friend
of his, DJ 711, expressed his shock and sadness, while adding he was still
battling with the shocking news. SWAMA President Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini said
they were distraught as an industry. He added by saying they have lost one of
their most reliable and dependable ambassadors in the arts and music industry.
“He lived for music. His passion was obvious to everyone who worked closely
with him, organising events or providing entertainment services. We would like
to pass our heartfelt condolences to his family, his friends and associates,”
he said.
