Leader and founder of the country’s leading gospel group, Shongwe and Khuphuka Saved Group has been appointed as one of the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) board members. Reverend Elias Shongwe was introduced as one of the board members during a press conference held at the Ministry of Sports Culture and Youth Affair’s press conference yesterday morning. Shongwe is one artist who has been successful in his music career as he has won a number of awards and is one of the best selling artists in the country. Shongwe was present when the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, unveiled an eight-member board. The board members were first asked to introduce themselves before being given their duties. The minister said it was exciting for him to announce the board adding this was a structure that is needed in the operations of the SNCAC. “We have seen the work of the board before and I hope the operations will continue to yield positive results. The outgoing board has worked well and has produced good results,” he said. The minister said he was hoping to get time and meet the outgoing board as it needs to be celebrated. “We have seen a lot of activities and achievements and this is because of their hard work,” he said. The minister said there were a lot of expectations with the current board saying they should work in unity in order to achieve their goals. All the newly appointed board members assured the minister that they will work hard so as to achieve most of their goals. Interviewed after being appointed, Shongwe said it was exciting to be recognised in this manner.
