‘2018: OUR YEAR OF FOCUS’

New Year new me! This is a popoular line that may seem a bit over used but for
some, it holds serious sentimentality, especially if the huge feel for change is
felt.
Socialite Lindokuhle Maseko and rapper, also former Chakalaka member LK Baba
opened up on their 2017 and the goals they have set for themselves this year.
These two personalities are all about dreaming to dare and daring to dream !
As young as they are, they have one similarity, they have faced challenges and
are willing to change their story. Its  a zero to hero story for them. We had a
one-on-one with them and this is what they had to say.
LK Baba
You might know him by his popular song ‘Mbabane’ or when he was part of
Chakalaka dishing out the popular ‘Bafati’ track which advocates against
woman abuse, today he has gone solo since late last year and his music career
has totally changed!
“Since I split from Chalakalaka and went solo, I have explored a side of me
that I think I didn’t know I had. Well, I knew I was gifted with rhymes though
it was only in the traditional sense and I could do it in traditional music but
after ‘Mswati’  and ‘Bokoni’ which was released recently, I am convinced
that this year will be an amazing year for me,”  he said.
Initially, Chakalaka comprised of LK Baba, who was the rapper and Mvilas, the
vocalist. Last year, the duo was joined by Nono, the lady who added a soprano
flair and DJ So What, who was producing some of the songs and was behind the
decks during their performances.
Chakalaka was established in 2006 and is known for their hit track ‘Bafati’,
a song which preaches against gender based violence.
The crew has been nominated for local awards and has made it to Sibebe Friday
Night Live performances; an initiative where the best Swazi artist compete to
perform at the internationally acclaimed MTN BushFire.
The rapper stated that he left the group a month ago because he had different
goals from the crew.
“I had developed different goals from the group and I saw it fit that I leave.
I just want growth and to do my own style as the solo LK Baba,” he said.
He also stated that he would have rather left than betray them.
“Many believed in Chakalaka and I know that this new information will hurt
them but it was getting really tense between us as a group, this move was
inevitable,” he said.
He also stated that his exit was always looming. Last year, when he was the
brand ambassador for Kwakha Indvodza ‘Machawe Asekhaya’ project, the artist
did solo performances.
“This year will bring nothing but the best in my career and the chess moves
that I am making will show in time,” he said.

You might have seen her strut it off, shaking it and playing with the pole at
one of the popular hot spots in the Manzini Region but Lindokuhle Maseko, the
lass from Bhunya, is more than that.
Her life has been riddled with misfortune but she was willing to do whatever to
turn her life around and be a better version of herself.
The beauty, who is currently based in Ngwane Park is determined to be that
corporate girl with a car and lots of money. Aspirations!
“When 2017 started, I had a wish to study Events Management in South Africa
and unfortunately, because of finances, that dream was blurred and I had to
settle for a course in Education in one of the colleges in Manzini,” she said.
She confesses that she has made many mistakes in her life and she has grown from
them, especially in the past year that reality had dawned on her.
“Life is about being comfortable I your own skin and creating your own journey
at your own pace. That is what 2017 has taught me and I am so anticipating this
year with all enthusiasm and positive energy,” she said.
Lindokuhle highlighted though, that she loved dancing and was not willing to
change that for any judgements that were thrown at her.
“I was introduced to it by my close friend and I loved it. I have suffered
subtle judgements and negative comments on social media but I do not let it
shutter me. In fact, I just ignore them and do what I love,” she said.
