Since taking to office early this month the Swaziland Arts and Music Association (SWAMA) executive has received overwhelming support from many quarters including the corporate space. They have taken a decision to suspend subscriptions for the duration of their term. As recently revealed, the new executive committee of SWAMA, led by President Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini, recently resolved to suspend membership fees and annual subscriptions. The move is meant to increase membership and afford every artist a fair opportunity to join the country’s biggest and oldest arts association. SWAMA is proud to announce that the registration line for membership is officially opened today and will close on January 31, 2018. To register, artists are encouraged to send an SMS using a Swazi MTN number to 79262. They need to to provide their real name, stage name, date of birth, and location. An example: Mandla Dlamini, MC Power, 15 April 1995, Nhlangano. It is important to use commas as separators not full stops. Each SMS will cost E2. Notably, the SMS number spells the word ‘SWAMA’ on a cellphone’s keypad All artists, established and up-and-coming, are encouraged to register. A confirmation SMS will be sent back to the artist to confirm successful registration. Meanwhile, bands, duos, or groups may register through one of their members. The band leader, or manager may register on behalf of the group through stating the leader’s real name, group’s name, leader’s date of birth, and location. Currently, SWAMA membership stands at 103 members. The new initiative is expected to increase membership by up to three times. Membership is open to musicians, singers, producers, composers, artist managers, poets, dancers, choreographers, comedians, actors, actresses, theatre directors, fine and visual artists, authors, arts activists, among all other forms of arts, as well as interested individuals. The registration platform is freely powered by MTN Swaziland, the country’s biggest mobile cellular network provider. “We would like to thank MTN Swaziland for coming through for us once again. The effort to make life simpler for artists is commendable,” Dlamini.
