Times Of Swaziland: MISS TEEN MANZINI’S ALCOHOL POST RAISES EYEBROWS MISS TEEN MANZINI’S ALCOHOL POST RAISES EYEBROWS ================================================================================ BY NONDUMISO MSIBI on 14/11/2017 03:59:00 MBABANE- Is social media doing more harm than good to the youth? These is the crucial question one has to ask themselves before posting anything on their social media pages. However, it seems like Miss Teen Manzini 2017, Michaela Peters who was crowned in August did not consider this. Michaela posted a picture of herself holding a champagne glass filled with what looked like the expensive Moet Champagne. The bottle of Moet was right next to the teen queen with a bouquet of flowers on a table. The beauty queen posted this picture of herself on the instagram social media handle. The picture had a number of social media users questioning whether a beauty queen should post suggestive pictures promoting alcohol. Especially because Michaela is a teen beauty queen aged 17 years. Investigate Speaking to the organiser of the pageant director Winile Mavuso, she said that she was not in a position to comment on anything regarding the matter as she will need to investigate more about it. “I haven’t seen the picture yet so I cannot comment about it. Even so I still have to investigate on the matter and hear her side of her story,”said Mavuso. She further said that because she had no clarity on the picture yet, she won’t shy away from the fact that upon grooming the contestants that took part in the pageantry they were told over and over again that they are to monitor everything that they put out on social media especially because they are now in the public eye. “They were told to pay close attention to the comments, photographs and messages, so that they are befitting of the titles they now hold. “A queen must have certain etiquette, even the princesses. If any queen is found out to have inappropriate photographs, defamatory comments or vile behaviour then they will be immediately stripped off their title,” emphasised Mavuso. Speaking on the same matter, Pageants SD Director Catrien Potgieter said that they were not aware of what was happening within Miss Teen Manzini. She said in as much as they were aware that such pageant was taking place the director Winile Mavuso never formally presented the idea to them as a mother body of all pageants. Questioned on why they did not then take action to stop the pageant if it was not formally under them , Potgieter said at the time they were dealing with the national pageant issues surrounding Miss Swaziland 2017, which was eventually cancelled for the year. She further said that upon hearing about the matter at hand, she had a conversation with the Swaziland National Arts and Culture (SNCAC) CEO, Stanley Dlamini who said that they have to do an investigation and get back to the Entertainment Desk with their findings. “We will also engage her on why the Miss Teen Manzini Pageant was not formally presented to Pageant SD.” Potgieter said the rules were clear when it comes to public conduct of beauty queens and in no way was any queen teen or adult be seen promoting alcohol drinking.
