MBABANE - The Global Entrepreneurship World Cup is generating a huge interest
locally.
An opportunity has been availed for local entrepreneurs to compete in the second
edition of the Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) worth a total of US$1 million
(about E16.4 million in yesterday’s exchange rate) in cash prizes.
This global competition elevates entrepreneurs from all levels from idea to
early and growth stages by providing them with tools and resources to grow their
ventures.
Yesterday during the launch of the local competition that will determine the
national representative in the global competition Junior Achievement Acting
Executive Director Phetsile Masilela disclosed that there were at least 75 local
applicants for the competition by Tuesday.
“We are going to have a national competition on August 26, 2020, where the top
three winners will be announced and supported with massive prizes,” said
Masilela.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Senator Manqoba Khumalo was a guest in
yesterday’s festivities held at the Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund offices in
Mbabane yesterday.
JA Eswatini is the official national organiser for the competition in the
country, working collaboratively with the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN)
Eswatini.
Applications
The latter was also represented in yesterday’s event. All applications are
conducted online through the Entrepreneurship World Cup website
(https://entrepreneurshipworldcup.com).
JA is running a local competition for all participants and the winner will then
represent the country at the global event.
There is a criterion of those who wish to enter and this can be found on the
registration form. These young people should at least be seven years in
business.
There are no specific categories and the ages are 18 to 35.The application is
done online and the deadline is on August 25, 2020 for the local competition so
the winner can be able to register for the international event.
The winning local business will join other global finalists in the next round
called Accelerate 2, which is a combination of virtual training sessions and
direct, one-to-one mentorship to prepare them for the global finals to be held
in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The competition is open to new ideas and any startup businesses with less than
seven years of existence by the date of the global finals scheduled for October
2020. Local applicants must have legally registered or planning to register
their businesses in Eswatini to be eligible.
