Old Mutual in collaboration with Swazi MTN will now provide free funeral insurance cover to Mobile Money subscribers known as Likhandlela Insurance. Likhandlela Insurance is a funeral assistance payout that helps a nominated beneficiary with preparations towards the funeral of the policy holder – which is the MTN Mobile Money customer who would have passed away. Swazi MTN Corporate Affairs Manager Mandla Luphondvo explained that this was one way through which Mobile Money subscribers’ could have more value for actively using the platform to do all kinds of transactions. Luphondvo explained to qualify for free funeral assistance; you need to send Mobile Money to another subscriber at least once per month. He said to qualify for a benefit of E500; customers need to send money once or twice. When you send money between three to four times, to another Mobile Money subscriber, you qualify for E1 500 cover. For E2 000 funeral assistance, you need to have sent money five or more times. Luphondvo clarified that in order to be part of the Mobile Money subscribers replica watches who stand to get more value; you need to be registered for MTN Mobile Money. Secondly, you need to send money through MTN Mobile Money. Finally, he said customers need to opt in by sending “YES” to 2030. It was emphasised that the final step was the critical step that gets a Mobile Money subscriber covered for funeral assistance. The funeral cover would be valid for one month after the Mobile Money subscriber has undertaken the activity that qualifies him/her. For instance, if you qualify in December 2017, the insurance cover is valid from 1- 31 January 2018. Further, the nominated beneficiary has up to 12 months to claim. “This initiative is rolled out at a time when customers need to refrain from carrying a lot of cash as robberies are widespread during the festive season. Essentially, this initiative is encouraging Mobile Money subscribers, who are close to half a million, to transact on the platform and avoid losing their hard earned cash. The additional incentive is that their relatives stand to benefit through funeral support. MTN Mobile Money was launched in 2011. Since its launch, Mobile Money has made it possible for subscribers, both employed and unemployed, to have access to a payment system,” said Luphondvo. Besides sending and receiving money, Mobile Money can also be used to pay for water, electricity, television licence, Swaziland Revenue Authority Tax, MTN airtime, to mention but a few. Old Mutual Marketing Executive Celiwe Dlamini said they were ready to hit the ground running through provision of free funeral cover in partnership with Swazi MTN.
