TRIBUTE TO VICTOR GAMEDZE

Anywhere, violence is an impediment to peace, crime is a threat to investor promotion and good neighbourliness, and yet malicious brutal killing of anyone, in particular investors, is a threat to economic development and social progress everywhere.”

I am tempted to quote a scripture in the Holy Bible where it reads: “Oh! Death where is thy victory, Oh! Death where is thy sting.” As a peace-loving person, I believe that there is no problem that cannot be resolved through dialogue because violence, killing and death of individuals cannot be a solution but a further exacerbation of the same problem.

What happened to Victor Gamedze is a barbaric and savage act that should not be allowed in our society and I invite all peace loving people in Swaziland to assist the police find the perpetrators of this spine- chilling evil as soon as possible, so that the perpetrators are brought to book as soon as possible. Many experiences in life have shown that violence cannot and does not solve problems as it is a problem in itself and wherever it has been used, it has tended to exacerbate the problems as such, when used as a tool to solve problems it multiplies the problem instead.

Whether done by individuals or gangsters, it can only cause more problems let alone murder and killing.
The world out there values human life such that it even came out with treaties and conventions towards dignifying human life by promoting the right to life to the extent of frowning to death sentence for even hard core criminals. It is at such merciless brutality and malicious killings by murderers and sometimes hired hit men that people often call for the return of the hangman.

At this moment of the dark cloud that has engulfed the nation, the family friends and relatives of the businessman and giant soccer visionary, leader, administrator and a head of the family Victor ‘Maradonna’ Gamedze, on behalf of my organisation, the Swazi Democratic Party (SWADEPA) and my family, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to all of you. Definitely by the help of God, the Almighty Jehovah, He, in his trinity will assist through this painful moment of grief.

May his soul rest in peace!  I pray that we all refuse to be judgmental at this period and allow the law enforcers to perform their duties so that eventually justice takes its course.
There are people in life who have God’s gift that everything they touch becomes gold and Victor was one of those. He had a gift that could not be taken away from him.

When he was a player, he was a successful striker and athlete, when he joined soccer administration and leadership in both Swallows and the Premier League of Swaziland, Swallows became an unstoppable successful team. The team succeeded in winning against big teams within the the SADC region and in the continent, a territory that was never reached by Swallows before. Furthermore, it produced players that attracted big African teams like AS VITA and others.

This took the Swallows brand to another level and the soccer standard of the country moved upwards in ratings internationally. Not so long ago, he was heard to be envisaging to buy a soccer team in South Africa to compete in the South African Premier League, a step that had never been ventured by any Swazi before.
