UNLOCKING YOUR PURPOSE

LIFE without a sense of purpose and destiny is just mere existence and tragic. Everyone from Africa, America, Europe, Asia and Australia desires to be successful in life.

Yet success seems to be so elusive and failure so common to most of us. In order to realise success in terms of achieving destiny, we must embrace principles and values that appear to be common in the lives of successful people’s lives. Real success in life begins at the point where we embrace God’s purpose for our lives. Usually God starts each of us in our future, dectoring the end from the beginning.

When you have a sense of destiny, it will inevitably propel you into a higher dimension of life and purpose. Dr Myles Munroe said, “The attempt to define success has been the task of many intelligent minds and creative thinkers over the years, yet it still seems to be a subjective reality, with its definition bound up in the heart of the individual.”  Whatever our understanding or definition of success is, we all want to live successful lives.

However, real success is actually the fulfillment of destiny. When we discover and understand destiny, our lives take on meaning and fulfillment. Who we really are helps define our destiny, and who we are destined to be gets its meaning from our relationship with our creator, God.

Therefore we must endeavour to become ‘God actualised,’ rather than being just ‘self actualised.’ We are actually who God says we are. The reality, fulfillment, and meaning of life is found in Him and not merely in our ‘self actualisation.’ Therefore we should teach ourselves to go beyond the mere quest for wealth and temporal prosperity to a realm of spiritual reality in God.

This will in turn thrust us beyond the past, root us firmly in the present and propel us into the possibilities of a great future. Fulfilling our destiny should be a lifestyle that leads to true riches, peace, purpose and significant living. Destiny and purpose is why we are here, what we must accomplish and where we are going.  This is why it is very important for one to discover his or her purpose, calling and destiny. This is what brings fulfillment and meaning to life.

Destiny is not luck or fate. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, destiny is something to which a person or thing is destined: a predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency.  Therefore destiny is something which an individual is intended, designed and ordained to become. It also has to do with purpose and a place or destination someone is headed, which finally brings fruitfulness and fulfillment. As we endeavour to unlock our destiny and pursue purpose, it is critical to look at and understand certain things:

We must derive our identity from God our creator rather than from external things. In spite of our beliefs about God, we will all need him at some point in life. There is an old saying that goes like this, “There are no atheists in a foxhole.”
We must embrace wholeness in terms of dealing with root issues that impact on our present behaviour and habits. Wholeness is defined as, ‘the quality or state of being whole, entire, or sound.

The family is the formation centre of our lives. It should be actually ecologically balanced environment for human growth, physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially and intellectually. Family life is important because it gives us love, a sense of belonging, acceptance, importance, security, mutual respect and wholeness. Many of us were born in circumstances that did not represent the family as God designed it to be. As a result, we lack inner wholeness. Therefore we must learn to deal with the deeply ingrained attitudes and ways of our childhood upbringing that may be negatively influencing our ability to effectively pursue destiny and purpose. We must allow God to heal the wounds, pains, and sorrows of life.

We must be aware of destiny killers and endeavor not to allow them to destroy our purpose. Be careful of
A lifestyle of disobedience to the rules, principles and values that govern a successful lifestyle.
Lust: Lust is defined as a craving, appetite or inordinate desire for something. This could be sexual lust, lust for power and control or lust for material things. Lust is a destiny killer, be careful of it.

Laziness: Proverbs 6:6-11 declares, “How long will you lie there you sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep, a little sleep a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.”

Pride: This is the greatest of all destiny killers because it distorts reality in our lives. Pride will always bring us to the lowest places of life. It is a downward motion; we must avoid it by all means.
Embrace your purpose, embrace your destiny, you can make it in life.
