THE SEAL OF GOD

THE book of revelation tells us of a special group of people who have a special relationship with the lamb and they are sealed with a special seal from God.

“Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, saying, ‘Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads’,” (Rev 7:2-3).

Many are bewildered with the questions as to who are the 144 000, is the number literal or symbolic. Let me submit to you dear reader that it may not be critical to your salvation to know if the number is literal or symbolic but rather what is more critical is to do the will of your Father in Heaven.

Others are of the opinion that it is only the 144 000 who will make it to heaven. However, the very same chapter clearly points out that it will not be only 144 000 people who will make it to heaven.
“After this I beheld, and, I saw, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindred, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And one of the elders asked, saying unto me, Who are these which are arrayed in white robes? And where did they come from? And I said unto him, sir, you know.

And he said to me, these are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sits on the throne shall dwell among them,” (Revelation 7:9-15).

In moving language, Revelation describes the behaviour of the faithful ones, the living righteous, who will have received God’s seal. “These are they that stand upon Mount Zion with the Lamb, having the Father’s name written in their foreheads. They sing the new song before the throne. These are they which follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the first fruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God,” (Revelation 14:4-5).

This same chapter shows us that those who are going to receive God’s seal upon their foreheads are ‘God’s commandment-keeping people’. “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus,” (Rev 14:12). Their sins removed, ‘they have on the wedding garment, and are obedient and faithful to all God’s commands’.

A careful consideration of the texts about the seal of God clearly shows that this subject is a matter of life and death. It is only those who will receive the seal of the living God that will pass through the time of trouble and the seven last plagues successfully. Only the sealed ones will stand in the Day of the Lord. Below is a list of some of the Bible verses that talk about the seal of God:

l ‘‘Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put His spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come’’ (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).
l ‘‘In whom you also trusted, after that you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation in whom also after that you believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise’’ (Ephesians 1:13).

l ‘‘And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption’’ (Ephesians 4:30).
l ‘‘Moreover I also gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them’’ (Ezekiel 20:12).

The time has come when all who have an interest in their salvation should earnestly and solemnly inquire; what is the seal of God? Everyone must now search the Bible for himself/herself upon his knees before God, with the humble, teachable heart of a child, if he or she would know what the Lord requires of him. Those who allow the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth receive the seal of God (John 16:13; 2; Corinthians 1:21, 22; Ephesians 1:13).
