MBABANE - What is a dream come true for local jazz band Step By Step is a golden opportunity to perform for the first time in Cameroon to take part in the African Jazz Festival.

Led by Swaziland Music and Arts Association (SWAMA) Secretary General, Dan Dlamini, the group is expected to spend a week in Yaounde as they are expected to give a two set performance.  Step by Step will be leaving the country on November 12 and expected to return home five days later. As one of the very few jazz ensembles from Swaziland, the group was delighted to be invited to one of the biggest jazz festivals in Africa after the organisers of the event sent an invite to the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs.

The ministry then forwarded the invitation to the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC). SNCAC then asked SWAMA to select an artist that would take part in the festival. And for Step by Step, the news couldn’t be better: they would be the only group representing the country.
SWAMA President Lutfo Dlamini confirmed that Step by Step had been selected to take part in the festival.

Dlamini said as it will be the first time for Swaziland to take part in the festival, “we had to make sure that we got a strong band that will lift the country’s flag high. “
Dlamini said his association was hoping to get more invitations as they wanted local artists to be able to attend festivals outside the country.
“We realise that people are now starting to take us seriously and we hope that this will continue. “
