MBABANE – ACASWA President Mhlonishwa Motsa and Mduduzi Simelane of Izinceku Zamagawugawu have clashed after Simelane’s public statement on piracy.
The clash comes after Simelane stated that those who where found with illegal copies of his music should not be arrested.

‘Gawuzela’, as he is  famously known, said while he supports government’s effort of ensuriang that artists are protected when it comes to their music which is pirated on the streets, he would not like a situation whereby a person who happens to buy a copy of his CD of DVD that has been pirated is arrested.
This statement has not gone down well with the President of the Christian artists in the country, Motsa.
Motsa verbally attacked Simelane saying in as far as ACASWA was concerned, Gawuzela’s statement was a sign that he was an irresponsible artist.

Unprofessional

Speaking during the launch of Africa and Lindo’s single CD  held  on Friday at Ramblas Restaurant, Motsa said Gawuzela’s comments were unprofessional, saying he believed that as a seasoned artist, Gawuzela should not have made such a statement.
“It is surprising that an artist who we all look up to would make such a statement. Not when all artists including those that are not even  members of the association have teamed up to fight piracy. We are concerned about Simelane’s statement and we condemn it in every way,” he said.

Motsa said artists have suffered a lot and that was the reason they had decided to stand up and try all means to see to it that such comes to an end.
“It then surprises us when we get to hear that an artist who we all thought is part of us feels those who buy pirated music are doing the right thing. This is not right and we are against such a statement as it does not help the artists in any way,” he said.

Motsa went on to thank government for the effort of assisting them as they fight piracy saying they are hoping that soon everyone will get to understand the importance  of buying original music copies.
“As artists, we need to come together and make sure that we fight piracy. We all need to come together and be one. If we continue being united, definitely we will turn the corner,” he said.
