Gcwala met up with young and upcoming music artist Wandile Sithole. He tells us more about his journey from his childhood to recording his album.

He was born at Dwalile in Mankayane in the Manzini Region 23 years ago. He went to Dwalile High School. “I am currently working at the Ministry of Tourism,” he tells Gcwala.
He started singing in 2001. “My father is a musician popularly known as Joe Sithole. He used to sing with Mshikishi Mdzebele.

I used to go with my father whenever he went to perform and that is how I developed the love of music. I always told myself that I would be the best musician when I grow up,” he said.
Wandile did not have the love of gospel music as he only had the love of Mbacanga music.

Concentrating

While still at school, some of the teachers noticed that he had the voice and they would always ask him to start a song during the morning assembly. “This is how I started singing gospel up until today. It is the only music I am concentrating on,” he said.

He has recorded two albums. The first album titled ‘Onkosi Jesu’ was released in 2001. Since then he has not released another album until late last year when he released his second album titled ‘Asilwi Namuntu’.
“On my second album I have worked with my church known as the Living World. They have been very supportive to my ministry. I also worked with Sicelo Dlamini at Down East Studios. The album is already receiving air play in the various media stations and these include SBIS, VOC, Channel Swazi and Swazi TV,” he said.

He has performed at a number of shows which include Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagawugawu’s DVD launch, Gcina Masuku’s album launch, and Swazi TV’s roadshows, outside the country and in Durban.
He is inspired by South African singer Dumi Mcostart and Lundi Tymara.  “I just love their music. I so much love Lundi Tyamara. He is just the best. Whenever he sings, I enjoy his music,” he tells Gcwala.
Enjoy
He would love to share the stage with Dumi Mcostart.  “He is just one of the best singers and I would enjoy sharing stage with him.
He would also love to perform before Their Majesties, Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini and the Cabinet. “During such a performance I would like my father to be present,” he reveals to Gcwala.

“It always becomes a good thing to remember one of your best performances. This is what I always hope to do when on stage and its feels good when think about my performance.”
Wandile is a huge a soccer fan. His favourite team is Mbabane Highlanders. “Wherever they have a game I always make sure I am there.”

Wandile enjoys watching football reading and singing.
“I am from a family of six with four girls and two boys. I am the fourth in the family.”
