Mbabane – the swaziland national council of arts and culture (sncac) through the swaziland beauty pageants association (sbpa) refutes any knowledge of the country’s hosting of miss deaf africa.

her royal highness sikhanyiso is the patron of the pageant while nokuthula mbatha is the director.
‘when conducting a national contest, including when conducting any preparations for the national contest, the organiser shall observe all laws, rules and regulations in force and all the rules, restrictions, obligations and conditions of this agreement, the entry form and any other rules or guidelines, which may be notified from time to time in writing by swaziland national council of arts and culture,’…..reads a document titled exclusive licence by the national council of arts and culture in relation to the hosting of pageants
sbpa’s president tony dlamini said there was absolutely no way it was possible for people to host the event without approval by the association.
“we are not aware of the hosting of an international pageant in the country hence anything on that regard is in vain,” he said.

ruling

this ruling is despite the fact that the said pageant was launched about a month ago where government was represented by the deputy prime minister paul dlamini and the minister of sports, culture and youth affairs david ngcamphalala was also present.
during that launch the dpm revealed that as government they fully support her royal highness’s dream to be part of the initiative.
dlamini also pointed out that they were not disturbed by the developments they have seen through the media regarding the pageant as they will stick by the law.

“we cannot entertain anything relating to this matter until all the formal channels have been exhausted. i have the structures, which should be followed as we speak” he added.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Council of Arts and Culture, Stanley Dlamini referred all questions to the Swaziland National Deaf Association.
“The pageant you are talking about belongs to the Deaf Association. However, if there is an event like that, they should write to our stakeholder, which is SBPA and in turn the association will write to us as a Council. This has not taken place so we are not aware of the hosting of the pageant,” he said.

Host

He went on to say he saw no obstacle towards the hosting of the event by the concerned parties save for the fact that they have to align themselves with the procedures.

Effort to get a detailed comment from Imbali Foundation proved futile as Prince Makhosonkhe who normally speaks on behalf of the organisation is out of the country.
“It’s unfortunate that I am on my way to Durban but I will address the issue when I come back,” he said.
